Poetry #1

1. This commercial borrows Charles Bukowski's poem "The Laughing Heart" without any credit.
2.The use of this poem by a corporation might be considered ironic because it is attempting to inspire people to take control of their own lives and make their own decisions. This is quite ironic because large corporations appear everywhere and seem to basically run the world by encouraging the public what to think or what to buy, which completely contradicts what the poem is trying to say.
3. Henry Charles Bukowski was known for writing poems about the depravity of urban life, death, sex, violence, and the oppressed in American society. He was also widely known for writing without fear by exploiting the stone cold  truths of everyday life that nobody liked to admit, which never seemed to shed light on him as a hero. After reading four random poems by Charles Bukowski, I could not believe he was the identical author. They all had an extremely ominous tone to them because of the raw manner in which he presented the realities of life. After reading the thoughts of others and forming my own about the author who was sadly beaten as a child and almost died while on a lonely tour across the country, I can only conclude that "The Laughing Heart" does not reflect Charles Bukowski's reputation at all.
4. In order to find the answer to the first question, I simply typed "who is the poem in the levis go forth ad 2011 by?" into Google and then clicked on http://theinspirationroom.com/daily/2011/levis-go-forth-with-legacy/ , which was the first website that popped up and gave me the answer. I found the answer to the second question by typing in the author's name and clicking on http://www.poetryfoundation.org/bio/charles-bukowski that gave me a page about his life and reputation as a writer. In order to confirm what they had suggested was correct, I typed in Charles Bukowski poems and clicked on http://bukowski.net/poems/, which gave a list of poems he had written. I then randomly chose to read "the house", "rhyming poem:", "curtain", and "a smile to remember" to form my own opinion.
